The Bell at Charlbury: Part of the local community

The Bell at Charlbury involved with the community of charlbury

The Bell at Charlbury is an enthusiastic supporter of the local community and especially those locally based charities that provide help to the residents of Charlbury and beyond.

Of course, we like to have fun whilst we help raise funds for these good causes as you will see below.

Our two favoured causes are both charities based in Charlbury:

ROSY - Respite nursing for Oxfordshire’s Sick Youngsters is an organization that provides specialist nursing support for families caring for long-term sick children in their own homes. Their fund-raising efforts, supported by Lady Rotherwick of Cornbury Estate, have just secured the services of a fifth full-time nurse for families in the Oxfordshire region, and they need to keep securing at least £150 thousand every year to maintain this service.

SPECIALEFFECT - are a unique charity who help young people with disabilities to benefit from the confidence building aspects of using leisure technology both in hospital and at home. Their team of experienced programmers has many years of experience in designing and adapting technology to help young people with physical and learning difficulties.

Part of the Charlbury Community

The Bell at Charlbury are honoured to be a part of the local community. Apart from the relationships with Rosy and SpecialEffect, we are keen supporters of many other local initiatives including:

  • regular contributions to Charlbury’s website
  • Promoters of the comedy tent at the Oxford Cornbury Music Festival and hosts to the Production team for the duration of the festival.
  • Beer festival As regular sponsors of the Charlbury Beer festival we’ve got to know the fantastic group of individuals who come together to generate a brilliant family day out as well as huge sums for the community
  • Street fair As a business right in the heart of Charlbury Street Fair is a huge part of our lives, we’re involved right from the start every year and are pleased to play host to the main stage with the official opening, announcements and best of all the live music. A superb day of fun for a really good cause.
  • Hi Fund - The HI-Fund is a charity started by Kiddywinks nursery to commemorate the lives of one of the mothers and one of the children who used the nursery. Being neighbours of ours it was the obvious choice for us to host the hugely successful Family Fun day on what must have been the only nice day in August this year. It was an amazing event with tons of entertainment for kids and parents alike we loved it so much we even provided the auctioneer! All told the day raised over £10, 000 an amazing amount even before you take into account that it was the first year.
  • Open gardens - News Link As part of the fundraising for Street Fair we organised the catering for the supremely successful inaugural Jazz Lunch. Providing visitors to the gardens with a lunch to go with the superb music from the Alan Fraser Trio proved a big hit – the only way to improve it would be to have more food!
  • Riverside festival Having been on the committee for the past few years we’re justifiably proud to be involved in one of the last remaining genuinely free festivals in the country. No one pays, no one gets paid - we do it because we love it: Two days of free music for around 2000 people with a strong emphasis on being family friendly. Not to be missed.
  • Charlbury Business Community As a town centre business, long time committee members and hosts of the Charlbury business lunch we’re keen supporters of this vital voice for business in Charlbury, we work to promote the views of businesses and commerce in general throughout the area and always welcome new members – or just those looking for a good lunch and a chat!

Not to mention our associations with:

SUSCHA;

The Charlbury School Association;

The Cotswold Voluntary Wardens;

Oxfordshire artweeks;

And the Charlbury Evergreens club.
